Hello and welcome to the official blog of the Australasian Development Economics Association. We are excited to launch this platform where we will share our news, events, research, insights and opinions on all things related to development economics in the Australasian region.
Who We Are
We are a non-profit organisation that aims to promote and advance the field of development economics in the Australasian region. We represent a community of researchers who share a common passion for understanding and improving the lives of people in developing countries.
Why We Exist
We believe that development economics is a vital and relevant discipline that can contribute to solving some of the most pressing and complex challenges of our time, around questions of poverty, inequality, health, education, environment, gender, migration, trade and conflict.
However, we also recognise that development economists face some challenges in our region, such as limited funding, limited recognition, and limited opportunities for collaboration with government and non-governmental organisations working in the region. We want to change that by creating a network that supports and connects development economists with each other and with development practitioners and funders in the region and beyond.
What We Do
We are developing a range of initiatives that aim to achieve our mission. These include:
Building a strong and vibrant community of development economists in the Australasian region, fostering collaboration, exchange of ideas, mentoring and networking opportunities.
Improving the quality and impact of research on development issues, supporting innovative and policy-relevant projects, disseminating findings to a wide audience, and engaging with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
Increasing the recognition of development economics as a priority area, advocating for more resources and support from funding bodies, academic institutions, government agencies and NGOs.
Enhancing the capacity and skills of development economists in the region, providing training, workshops, seminars, conferences and other learning opportunities.
Raising the awareness and appreciation of development economics among the public, media, educators and students, highlighting its relevance, importance and contributions to society.
